The starting point
A kitchen that felt closed in.
The original galley concentrated the work into a narrow passage, with cabinetry and appliances along opposing sides. A dropped ceiling, a large ceiling light panel, and a doorway at the end added to the enclosed feeling. Nancy described it as cramped; the goal was to make the kitchen feel open, inviting, and easier to enjoy.
Before & after
The same kitchen. A different feeling.
Existing project photographs show the original galley and the renovated work area.

Planning & problem-solving
Opening up the possibilities.
The renovation opened up the galley layout and replaced the heavy, enclosed feel with brighter surfaces and a cleaner ceiling line. Open shelving breaks up the upper cabinetry, while lighting beneath the cabinets brightens the countertop. Together, these changes give the working side of the kitchen a lighter, more connected feel.Nancy’s review describes planning with the crew, working through unexpected problems, and seeing ideas become reality. That teamwork mattered as much as the finishes: she credits Steve and the crew with finding a way forward when others had said it could not be done.
